room for one more

I realised once I wrote it that the title of this post is pretty misleading; we’re actually not having any more children (ever!), but moving both kiddos into their shared room over the next couple of months. I think a shared room is pretty challenging anyway, with multiple personalities, tastes and hobbies to consider, but when you’ve got a child of each gender to cater for it’s even more tricky.

I’ve been trawling the internet and most bedrooms seem to try and split the room in half so each child has a dedicated section, but I’m not really a fan of that; my two are still too young to need privacy, and I don’t really like how a room looks when you start splitting it in half – there’s also not enough space to start introducing dividers and curtains and whatnot. I’m looking at mixing in all the vintage and retro things I’ve already collected with some gender-neutral bedding, lighting and prints; I want it to be colourful, cheerful and a place they enjoy spending time together – particularly at bedtime, when the sofa is calling my name!

I love the idea of kids sharing a room, but I can imagine the reality could be a bit different! I love all of the rooms you've chosen and I'm totally shopping at H&M home as I'm loving that basket x

love that shelving unit! I used to share with my big brother and then also with my little sister when he got his own room. It was a lot more peaceful sharing with my brother actually (although that's probably more about me and my sisters relationship than anything. I love all your pics, can't wait to see their room! x

Ha ha, I totally thought this was going to be a pregnancy announcement!! I'm loving your choices. We're thinking of doing the girls room sometime next year (ie, when we have the funds) and I think a bright colour scheme is definitely the order of the day. In fact, I feel a Pinterest session coming on……

Up until recently, Charlie and Flo shared a room and it wasn't too bad. It was pretty multicoloured (not too much pink or blue) and high shelving where Charlie could keep his precious Lego creations safe. They also shared bunk beds which worked out fine as Charlie felt he was top dog. We made sure that the wall space by each of their beds was personalised and stuck up lots of their artwork all around the room. I love your picks, I'm sure you'll make it look ace. Good luck! x

Oh I love these, great inspiration…I have a son and daughter who share and we haven't split the room…although as my son moved in with my daughter it's probably a bit more girly but we have colourful bunting and rugs…I could do with jazzing it all up a bit though!

How cute is all of this? Until I was 10 I shared a room with my twin brother, he wanted a yellow room and I wanted pink. What we ended up with was two lime green walls and two lilac walls, but I shall excuse my mum for that as it was the 90s 😉 xJosie’s Journal
