clothes for the day – week 33

Dress: ASOS Maternity // Cardigan: Thrifted // Coat: Thrifted // Bag: Thrifted // Boots: H&M

Anyone who reads this blog regularly will know that I love two things in life (apart from my wonderful family) – crafts and clothes. I’ve spent most of my life chopping and changing, and experimenting with different styles, I’ve swapped between eras and taken inspiration from everyone from Kate Moss to the Olsen twins. But during pregnancy, I experience some sort of utter despair with clothes, totally lose my way, and end up wearing jeans (usually fastened below the bump) and t-shirts – I can never find anything that fits properly, and by the last few weeks my dressing time is usually punctuated with, “but I look like a frickin’ whale!” Which is why, although I’ve posted pregnancy photos, I haven’t done an outfit post for a very, VERY long time, and I feel like this one should be accompanied by a drum roll.

The dress is from ASOS Maternity, bought during their sale for a teeny tiny £10 – it’s a 60’s style shift, and should still look fine after littlest Owl puts in an appearance. The biggest problem I have with buying maternity clothes is that apart from being overpriced, they only fit for a few months – oh, and most of them are incredibly boring, or even worse, just plain ugly. This dress was like a shining beacon of fashion hope, and it really couldn’t be more comfortable either. I found the coat in a charity shop, for a mere £6 – it’s teal, which has been on my wish list for aaaaages, and also it’s a 60’s swing style, which will hopefully sit snugly round the baby when she’s nestled up against me in her sling.

I’m thirty-three weeks now, and can’t help but wish I’d made more of an effort for the rest of this pregnancy, a la the fabulous Miss James of Bleubird Vintage, who I’m sure never set foot outside of the house wearing jeans fastened with a hairband…. Hopefully I’ll manage to squeeze in another few outfit posts before baby puts in an appearance – I’ve got some more thrifted goodies and new shoes to show off, and I don’t think I can wait almost seven weeks to do it!
